2nd Elective : Print. YEAHHHHHH BUDDY!

So, I'm in Print at the moment and I'm really enjoying it. I always kind of knew it was for me, when I got into it properly this semester, as opposed to dabbling in it like I did in the first semester. Our project brief is on Space, how you occupy it and the space around you. I did a few little sketches on
the things around me and that are personal to me.

So I think I'm going to go with the idea of Personal Space, how you let someone into it, and I'll represent it with a hug/embrace.

The Destroyed Table Clothe.

The title says it all. But I like it, the colours, the pattern, and how messy it looks. Which is kind of the point. Basically to defile it. I've a lot of picture so here you go.

My Table!

My messy messy table, also started working with paprika tumerick and curry ( mild, medium and hot ) just for a variety of colour and smells.

Attempting 3D.

I thought that my project was looking a bit flat, so I decided to make these boxes and dribble oil, water and pva on them, then sprinkle the already ground coffee on top of the liquids. It was really interesting with the coffee on the water because it spread out and almost gave a really nice pattern while doing so, where as with the pva and the oil it just kind of soaked into it but didn't spread.

Coffee, Cavas, and other liquids.

So instead of using just paper and card, I decide to get some canvas and cut it off the frame, I then got oil, water and glue, got the coffee granules, and ground them into each other. Here's the result.

I also tried to use tulle as well, and fabric to change the foundation of the coffee and liquid.

Bump and Grind.

Okay so, some samples of grinding had to be done at the beginning. I sis, washing tablets, coffee, chalk, grass, and other things. All very crazy stuff. Turned out nicely though, but from a financial standpoint, what with the project being only 2 weeks long, coffee seemed to be the easiest thing. Cheap and cheerful. Here, have some pictures.

Semester 2, 1st elective : Sculpture - The 5 senses.

Okay so, we got through semester 1 (just about) and now it's on to a new semester, a  new elective and a new brief! I'm pretty happy that the electives only last 2 weeks, it;s more of an incentive to work, and the time flies by.
Our brief for Sculpture is the five senses. We had big A1 sheets with each word in the middle and we rotated around the room and put our ideas down. After that, we had a second set of sheets that we put doing words on to do with the sense. So taste - mouth - teeth - to grind.
And that's what I chose to do, grind/ dissolve.
And the magic material I'm using is coffee.

Some Analytical Drawings.

So I thought I get a little bit more 2D work in, and thought that it'd be good to use my photography for it.
I also took a stab at typography, just to see how it went. It relates to the pink wax that I used on the tulle below.
I used food dye to try and recreate the patterns of the drip and see how it would mark the paper.

Finished Knitting!

I decided that I was going to leave this till it was all done and make one big post because I'd say that this is my favourite part of the whole project, I had so much fun planning it out and doing it.
My mom helped a lot, she a world class master when it comes to knitting, and I got a good few tips to make it neat and professional.
Sewing the hand onto the cardboard to make it strong enough to stick up on the wall

The outlines I used to guide me when I was knitting.

Trying to figure out the position in which I was going to put it up on the wall.

 The famous handmade bamboo needles.
 Sewing the body onto Cardboard.

And it's up! Decided to put it going down the stairs so that the chiffon for the hair would flow.

I got the idea to suspend the chiffon/hair from an Artist called Karla Black. She does amazing installation pieces with huge amounts of fabric that are so beautiful and delicate.
